In early 2020, I went to Canada to visit my mom as I do every year. The 6 week trip turned into over 6 months as borders closed and planes stopped flying. During that time, I sent Boyfriend a photo of a French cafe that had giant plush teddy bears at their tables to limit seating. When I finally got home, B3 was waiting for me. 🐻💜

That’s the largest men’s necktie I could find and it bearly fits (intentional typo 😉)

I gave it to my dad in honor of a family conversation once when he asked “what kind of bird is that?” about one sitting on a fence and Mom replied “a red-winged blackbird.” To which he replied “I can see that. What’s it called?” - that convo was a little Abbott & Costello for a while.

When my mom moved after my dad passed, I brought the red-winged blackbird home with me.

We call them Baby Eeyore because of that big smile, before a life in fiat beat them down.

17 / #29daysplushielove - This is BubaLou, the manatee. Picked him up from Disney World in 2018 at The Living Seas exhibit. We heard the presentation on manatees from the cast members, including the tidbit that sailors (after months at sea) mistook manatees for mermaids. From then on, whenever I saw a manatee, as in at the Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom, I’d say “Mermaid!” 🧜

BubaLou makes a great phone rest when sitting in my chair and playing games for sats or noting on Nostr.

15 & 16 / #29daysplushielove - I was helping an artist with their booth in the dealer’s room of a pop culture convention and while on break, browsed the other tables. Both pandas were on display as you see in the photo, at the dealer across the aisle from us. I spent a long time looking at them, but didn’t have a lot of spending money, so only bought Mizu (little panda). At the end of the convention, as everyone is packing up, the dealer came over and gave me Ishi (large panda). That was as about 10 years ago; a wonderful act of kindness.

9 & 10 / #29daysplushielove - This is Blue (left) and Destin (right). I bought Destin because of Lisa Mantchev’s picture book, Strictly No Elephants (really adorable story with art by Taeeun Yoo). I bought Blue as an award for crossing major streets to walk to the grocery store (doesn’t sound like much but it was a big deal at the time for me).

I like tangible memories, so a lot of my “stuff” is reminders of people/places/feelings.

My dad did an medical internship in England when I was a kid, so I had Paddington Bear sheets because, as the family story goes, my parents went to the furniture store to buy the bed and I wouldn’t leave until they also got the sheets. Thanks to the movie, PB plush made it to this side of the pond. His tag broke off during one of his trips in the dryer for de-dusting.
