After a bit of experimenting, I now have a template (3 really) for some of the flowers. Going to figure out how I want a profile flower to look, then start cutting into the yellow paint& ink tissue paper I prepped yesterday.

After seeing how well the painted tissue paper hat and gloves turned out (and how poorly the painted stems turned out (twice)), I’m painting more tissue paper and will use that technique for the stems, leaves, and flowers.

Hat is done. Now waiting for glue to dry on the garden gloves.

Hat and gloves are paint and ink drenched tissue paper glued to copy paper. The hat lines were drawn with a Fabre-Castell PITT Artist Pen.

Think I’m going to leave the gloves as is, since they have a rubbery look already.

Current state of the art board. Once this layer dries, I’ll work on the door frame and glass, which will just be a darkish gray to provide contrast with the flowers.

Second image is a close up to show the texture the Faber-Castell gelatos can provide if you don’t brush water over them.

Step 3: wash of yellow from a Stabilo water-soluble pencil. Even though more stuff will go on top, this gives the whole a shared undertone.

When the painter worked on my mom’s living room walls, he said the color she chose was like sunshine. So we call her place the Sunshine House now. 🌞

After this, there aren’t any defined steps - it’s just me playing with paint and process and texture until what’s on the board is close to the image in my head, or looks good enough to me to stop.

Step 2: use carbon paper to outline the base sketch onto Canson art board.

This is a 9” x 12” watercolor art board. I’ve also used their mixed media art board and for what I make, haven’t found a big difference, so I buy whatever is on sale or available in the size I need.
