Sharing Past Art…

One of the mixed media 1920s French Fashion nostriches I created for last year’s Nostrich November art challenge.

I drew the nostrich based on a vintage fashion catalog. Printed and colored her with Copic markers. Then added her to an 8” x 10” art board, with a background of collage and acrylic paint, with Art Deco patterns.

The text is a French translation of the copy on the Nostrich November website, printed on tissue paper.

I’ll be updating the website next month with details about this year’s art challenge.

Introducing Jouvence, the first of fifteen 1920s French fashion nostriches I’m creating for https://nostrichnovember.com - drawn in Procreate, colored with Copic markers, and placed on a mixed media background. I’ll reveal the others in November.

It’s really fun to see the final art after all the experimentation. For monthly art challenges, I usually muddle along until I find a theme/style I want to continue, a process that usually takes 5-7 days. Doing all the muddling around up front means the art I post during #nostrichnovember will have a cohesive look from the start.

At least, that’s the plan. I may change it all up after making 3 more of these. 😬

After pushing pixels around in Procreate for …. a long time, I have a style I like for the 1920s French fashion nostriches I’m creating for https://nostrichnovember.com - it’s a month-long art challenge open to anyone, modeled on Mermay and Inktober. Feel free to start creating now and post in November - I am. :)

Next steps are to print this drawing, add color, and spend more time on the mixed media aspect, as the final artwork will be on an 8” x 10” art board.

Then repeat for a total of 15 nostrich vintage fashion masterpieces!!!!!!!

Using washi tape to hold tissue paper to card stock to run it through my printer is a pain, but the results are worth it. Original French text about the fashions I’m using as reference for my #nostrichnovember project.

I like having lots of parts ready before I start working on a mixed media piece. Next up is printing some vintage maps of Paris.

Sitting on the floor and sorting through reference images. These are thumbnails from a 1921 French fashion catalog. I’ll be using them for my #nostrichnovember project*. Still need to decide if I’ll work on 5x7 inch art boards or 8x10 inch. Might try one of each and see how it feels.
